Powerball Jackpot Climbs To $475M
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com/AP) — No one matched all six numbers in Wednesday's Powerball so the jackpot climbs to an estimated $475 million, according to Powerball officials.
Powerball officials say the public can expect to see more large jackpots in the future thanks to the game's 2012 redesign. The revamped game increases the odds of winning some type of prize and lowers the possible number combinations needed to win.
The cash value of Saturday's jackpot is $302.4 million.
The jackpot was last hit March 30.
Powerball tickets -- which cost $2 each -- must be purchased by 7 p.m. the night of the drawing.
The numbers drawn Wednesday are 2, 11, 26, 34, 41 and the Powerball number 32.
Six Californians had 5/5 tickets -- meaning they matched every number but the Powerball. Those six winners will each win $256,317. (The closest winner to Los Angeles was Huntington Beach -- Town Liquor, 9795 Adams Ave.)
Powerball is played in 43 states, Washington D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Powerball starts at $40 million. The record jackpot reached $588 million in November 2012.
Meanwhile, no one matched all six numbers in Tuesday's Mega Millions draw. The jackpot for Friday's game is $190 million.
The Mega Millions game is played in 42 states, Washington D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Mega Millions jackpot starts at $12 million. The record jackpot went to $640 million in April 2012.
