Powerball Jackpot Soars To $450M (At Least)
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) – No ticket matched all six numbers in Saturday's Powerball draw with the estimated $394 million prize.
The estimated jackpot for Saturday's draw had been $360 million but brisk sales nationwide upped the pot to nearly $400 million.
The numbers selected Saturday evening were 5, 10, 21, 34, 58 and a Powerball number of 33.
Lottery officials say the jackpot for next Wednesday's draw will be at least $450 million. With more sales, the jackpot could rise. $The 450 million jackpot would make this pot the third largest in Powerball history.
Officials said the last time any player won a Powerball jackpot was on November 29, 2014, when a single ticket purchased in the state of Washington matched all six numbers. The jackpot was $90 million.
California's biggest Powerball winner, to date, won $425.3 million in February 2014.
At least eight tickets in Saturday's Powerball had the five winning numbers without the Powerball number. One of those tickets (sold in Massachusetts) is worth $2 million. The others (worth at least $1 million each) were sold in California, Florida, Louisiana, Missouri, New York, Ohio and Texas.
In California, one of the $1.3 million tickets was sold at Big Mac's Liquor Store (3735 W. Sunset Boulevard) and another at a 7-Eleven in Norco (1933 River Road.)
The $2 Powerball game is played in 43 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Powerball starts at $40 million and climbs every time there is no winner. The record jackpot reached $590 million in May 2013. That ticket was sold in Florida. A $587 million jackpot was won by two people (Arizona and Missouri) in Nov. 2012.
Meanwhile, California Lottery officials announced that a winning $14 million SuperLotto Plus ticket was sold in Glendale.
The winner was purchased at Mary's Little House of Coffee (130 Stocker Street).
The SuperLotto numbers drawn Saturday were 6, 20, 23, 24, 29 and the Mega number was 23.
