Power Surge Knocks Out 1 Of 2 Metro Gold Line Tracks
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A power surge knocked out one of the two Metro Gold Line tracks between Los Angeles and Pasadena, reducing service to just one slower train every 30 minutes in both directions.
It was unclear if rain caused the power surge on the wires above the tracks at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Gayle Anderson of the MTA said. The outage affected one of the dual tracks between the Del Mar and Southwest Museum stations.
"I can't say what caused it (the power surge). As soon as they figured out what caused it, they will fix it," Anderson said. "It may continue until tomorrow."
As of now, passengers wanting to ride the northern branch of the Gold Line, which runs from Union Station to Pasadena, can expect the trains to run every 30 minutes. Those trains will run at a reduced speed of 5 miles per hour where opposing trains must share the single operating track, at Highland Park.
