Power Outage Reported In South Orange County
UPDATE (11:15 p.m.): Some parts of Orange County -- namely San Clemente and Aliso Viejo -- are reporting that power is slowly being restored.
MISSION VIEJO (CBS) — A wide-spread power outage has been reported from South Orange County to portions of San Diego, according to SoCal Edison.
Officials say the outage also affects part of Riverside County and extends into Mexico and Arizona.
The Orange County Fire Authority is advising residents to check on pets, children and the elderly to ensure they are safe without power in the hot weather.
Reports said the power started going out around 3:30. Some customers were back on line within half hour, many others report they are still out as of 5 p.m.
Authorities estimated that more than 2 million people went without power for some or all of the outage.
San Diego reportedly suffered the brunt of the outage.
AP quotes a San Diego Gas & Electric executive saying a transmitter line between California and Arizona was somehow severed.
