Possible Homicide Suspect Climbs Onto Roof, Arrested After Inglewood Standoff

INGLEWOOD (CBSLA.com) – Authorities say a possible homicide suspect is in custody after a standoff in Inglewood that forced a nearby high school into lockdown Friday afternoon.

At approximately 12:51 p.m. Los Angeles County Fire Department crews were called to the area of West 106th Street and Yukon Avenue to find one person dead and a second injured.

Inglewood police responded and made contact with the male suspect, who refused to surrender. A standoff ensued with the suspect, who was on the roof of a home. He jumped from one roof to another, taunting officers and at one point taking his shirt off. Nearby Morningside High School was placed on lockdowd.

At around 3 p.m., the suspect surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody. The lockdown was lifted at Morningside High.

Police would not confirm details of the homicide. However, family of the victim told KCAL9 that the suspect had just gotten out of state prison. He came to the home of his fiancée Thursday morning despite a court order that required him to stay away from her.

The woman's father told him to leave, the family said. The suspect then shot and killed the father then assaulted his fiancée.

The name of the suspect and the charges he faces were not immediately confirmed. The injured victim was taken to a hospital. Her condition was not immediately disclosed.
