Porn Companies Threaten To Leave LA As New Condom Law Goes Into Effect
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Adult video producers are threatening to leave Los Angeles as a city ordinance governing the $1 billion pornography industry goes into effect.
The new law, which went into effect Monday, requires adult video stars to wear condoms on shoots.
Health groups say it's essential to protect adult video stars from sexually transmitted disease.
The adult video industry opposes the measure, saying it does extensive testing and that performers should be able to choose whether they use condoms.
Supporters of a measure that would require adult video stars to wear condoms on shoots throughout Los Angeles County say they've already collected half of the 230,000 signatures needed to get the measure on the November ballot.
