Pomona Police Fatally Shoot Knife-Wielding Suspect
POMONA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Tuesday were investigating the fatal officer-involved shooting of a knife-wielding suspect in Pomona.
The shooting occurred at 7:33 p.m. Monday after Pomona police responded to the 500 block of Carruthers Court for a call of a family disturbance and a man with a knife.
When officers arrived on scene, they found a 47-year-old man holding a large kitchen knife who was acting aggressive, the Pomona Police Department said.
"As the officers engaged the suspect, they attempted to utilize a Taser device which proved ineffective and when the suspect advanced on the officers, an officer-involved shooting occurred," Lt. Dave Coleman said.
The man was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. No officers were injured in the shooting.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is assisting in the investigation.
