Politicians, Celebrities Reflect On Kobe's Final Game, Career
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — He might be playing his final game in a Lakers' uniform, but given how politicians and celebrities took to social media -- and/or made statements -- Wednesday, it's clear Kobe Bryant has left a legacy all over the city.
He might be leaving the game, but the game is clearly not leaving him.
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti wrote, "For 20 years, Kobe Bryant embodied the quintessential Los Angeles sports hero: fearlessly competitive, uncommonly loyal and globally admired. His legacy as a Laker and his standing as an icon in this city are undeniable. When Kobe walks into the tunnel for the final time tonight, the cheers for number 24 will be for more than his talent and his championships. They will be for the countless memories he gave an entire generation of fans -- devoted and casual -- who have been inspired by the tenacity he brought to every moment on the basketball court."
Fittingly, beginning at dusk City Hall will be lit up in purple and gold Wednesday evening.

City Council President Herb Wesson surprised fans when he announced the building's exterior will be lit up in Lakers team colors in honor of the superstar's final game.
"The City of Angels owes Kobe Bryant a debt of gratitude for sharing with us 20 remarkable years of electrifying dedication and commitment to the city, our fans and communities," said Wesson. "His work ethic, hustle and quest for championships ensures his place in the history books- there will never be another Kobe Bryant."
Former Lakers great Earvin "Magic" Johnson wrote a letter of appreciation to Bryant on Johnson's website.
The letter read in part, "For 20 years, I've watched you dominate the game of basketball. From the Great Western Forum to the world famous Staples Center, you have dedicated your life to becoming one of the greatest players this game has ever seen. Through your commitment to success, outstanding work ethic, and winning attitude, each year you perfected your abilities beyond expectation."
