Police Use Stun Gun To Subdue Chase Suspect Who Injured 3 In Crash
LA VERNE (CBSLA.com) — A 38-year-old man, who had to be subdued with a stun gun, was booked on suspicion of carjacking and evading a police officer after a chase that ended in a crash that injured three people on Friday, according to Pamona police.
Anthony Michael Epolito, who is described as a transient, was being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility near downtown Los Angeles on $100,000 bail, Pomona police Lt. Ronald McDonald said.
The chase began about 1:45 p.m. Friday, after officers spotted a carjacked Honda that had stolen from a 55-year-old woman in downtown Pomona, police said. The suspect, who had physically removed the woman from the vehicle, initially stopped for police , but then sped away.
In addition to Pomona officers, a police helicopter from Ontario joined the chase as it continued into a residential area of La Verne. After heading south of B Street and Bonita Avenue, the Honda crashed into other vehicles, police said.
Epolito was zapped with a stun gun after police said he resisted arrest. He was examined at a hospital before being booked.
Three people were treated at the scene of the crash, Pomona police said, and one of them was later airlifted to a hospital, suffering from chest trauma.
