Police: Suspect Asks Cal Poly Students For Cell Phone, Then Punches Them
POMONA (CBS) — Two Cal Poly Pomona students were robbed of cell phones in separate incidents at the school, authorities said Thursday.
The crimes occurred on April 30 and May 3, according to the college's public affairs office.
On the afternoon of May 3, the suspect approached a student who was walking through Parking Lot K toward the bus stop at Temple Avenue and South Campus Drive. After demanding to see the student's cell phone, the man punched him in the face, took the phone and ran.
On the afternoon of April 30, the suspect asked to use a student's cell phone, then punched him in the face and ran away. The student was walking on the sidewalk between the track at Kellogg Field and Scolinos Field, near Parking Lot B.
Authorities circulated a composite drawing of the suspect, described as a white man in his 20s, about 5'9' tall with a thin build and blond hair. He has been seen wearing a blue polo shirt with white horizontal stripes and white or light tan khaki pants.
Students and faculty are urged to be aware of their surroundings when using their cell phones while walking. The two victims were unaware that the robber had approached until the last moment, police said.
