Police: Stolen iPhone Traced Back To Simi Valley High School Students
SIMI VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — Police Wednesday arrested the second of two Simi Valley students who allegedly stole an iPhone from a woman's purse while she watched her daughter play soccer.
On Nov. 3, an Apple iPhone was stolen from the Rancho Santa Susanna Community Center soccer field after it was left inside a duffel bag, but was visible to anyone who was looking at the bag, according to Simi Valley Police.
Several young male spectators were at the game, in the vicinity of the bag. Santa Clarita resident Christine Caron noticed it was missing after the game, and did not know who had stolen the phone.
Detectives began tracking the phone to several locations within Simi Valley.
On Tuesday, the phone was tracked to Simi Valley High School, and later in the day, to the 6300 block of Katherine Road.
Detectives made contact with the residents on Katherine Road, recovered the stolen phone, and arrested one juvenile male.
The juvenile was allegedly in the process of attempting to "wipe" the phone and avoid capture by police.
The second suspect, also a juvenile male, was arrested on Wednesday. Both were cited and released for follow-up by the Probation Department for theft and being in possession of stolen property.
Caron was ecstatic upon hearing the news that her phone was recovered.
"I can't believe you guys were able to get it back," Caron told police. "I am so happy."
