Police Seek Help To Identify Alleged Hit-And-Run Driver In LA
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Police sought the public's help Thursday to identify an alleged hit-and-run driver who struck an 87-year-old woman near the University of Southern California.
Around 8:00 a.m. Monday, a woman crossed the street on Adams Boulevard within a marked crosswalk, and was allegedly struck by a silver colored, late model Infiniti SUV -- possibly a QX or FX model -- that was driven by a male suspect, police explained.
The Los Angeles Police Department released surveillance video of the collision in an effort to identify the driver of the SUV.
A preliminary investigation revealed the suspect traveled eastbound on Adams Boulevard, and allegedly collided with the pedestrian after he turned northbound onto Figueroa Street, according to the LAPD.
Officers added the man allegedly traveled about one block before he made a U-turn, then drove past the victim in the southbound lanes, and fled from the scene.
The man proceeded to drive around the USC campus at a high rate of speed, and even drove through a red light at one point.
When authorities arrived to the scene, they transported the woman to a hospital in critical condition.
No suspect description is available at this time.
