Police Locate Mother Of 3-Year-Old Boy Found Wandering Streets Of South LA Alone

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Police on Wednesday night located the mother of a 3-year-old boy who was found walking alone in South Los Angeles. However, they were still searching for the boy's babysitter, who is believed to have been in charge of watching the boy on Wednesday.

The child was spotted at around 10:30 a.m. by a good Samaritan near 111th Street and Avalon Boulevard, according to the LAPD. She brought the toddler to the police station.

"At first it was like, 'Oh my God," the good Samaritan, Delia Hernandez, told CBS2's Serene Branson. "I'm glad he's reunited."

The boy had been left for the day with a male babysitter, police said.

Police said they found the boy was somewhat scared, but otherwise in good health. The boy was undergoing a medical checkup before the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services could decide if the child will be returned to his mother.

The mother called police after arriving home from work and was being interviewed by detectives at the LAPD's Southeast station on Wednesday night.

"The mother is understandably shocked and mortified to be perfectly honest," said LAPD Sgt. James Linder. "She's embarrassed that his whole thing went down. Sounds like she's going to do a lot of reflecting on her babysitter."

The babysitter was not identified, but was believed to have possibly fled to the Antelope Valley.
