Police Searching For Vandals Who Flooded Long Beach Church
LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Police are seeking the public's help in the search for vandals who flooded a Long Beach church building early Sunday.
Authorities said vandals forced hoses through several windows of the Neighborhood Church building in the 3400 block of San Anseline Ave.
"When I walked through the suite, my sandals were soaked," said Dr. Barbara Adams, who runs the Center for Psychological Help. Her computer was destroyed and the carpets in her office drenched by the flooding.
Dr. Adams said the vandals appeared interested in causing deliberate damage.
"They didn't steal anything as far as we can tell, and so it seems to be just to inflict pain," Dr. Adams said. "That's sad."
Marlene Arrona of the Long Beach Police Department said the person or persons gained access to the building by jumping over a fence.
"It's just heartbreaking" for a community organization to be deliberately targeted, said John Matlock. His organization offers grief support services.
Police do not know what the motive was.
A church in Palmdale was flooded May 19 by vandals, though there is no word if the incidents were connected.
The investigation is ongoing.
