Missing Northridge Girl, 10, Found In Woodland Hills
WOODLAND HILLS (CBSLA.com) — Police say they have found a 10-year-old girl six miles from her Northridge home Wednesday after she disappeared from her bedroom overnight.
The girl was seen barefoot and talking with emergency response crews near a Starbucks store in a Woodland Hills strip mall just before 3 p.m. She was reportedly first spotted at a Goodwill thrift store in the area.
She was transported to a local emergency room via ambulance. Police say the victim suffered cuts, scrapes and bruises.
The victim was dropped off at the thrift shop by an unknown suspect. A citizen pointed the girl in the direction of officers, who recognized her from media reports, Los Angeles police Capt. Kris Pitcher said.
"She basically is in shock right now," Pitcher said. "Like I said, she's walking, she's talking, she's conversing with the officers and with the FBI agents, and with the doctors and the nurses at the hospital."
The girl was last seen sleeping around 1 a.m. in her bedroom at the family's home, located in the 8800 block of Oakdale Avenue, officials said.
When the victim's mother went back to check on her daughter at 3:30 a.m., the child was missing, according to police.
There was no evidence the young girl ran away from home and she reportedly has a good relationship with her parents, according to Capt. Daryl Russell.
"I'm scared, I'm frightened, you know? I have a 13-year-old," neighbor Stephanie Dolatre told KCAL9 earlier in the day. "This is not the best neighborhood."
The FBI, which assisted in the search, would not comment on whether there was evidence the youth was abducted or lured from her home.
