Police Say West Covina Lawmaker Was Legally Drunk When Stopped For DUI
WEST COVINA (AP) — Police say a Southern California state lawmaker was legally drunk when officers arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence last month in Concord.
Concord police on Wednesday said blood tests showed state Assemblyman Roger Hernandez, D-West Covina, had a 0.08-percent blood alcohol level when he was stopped at 2 a.m. on March 27. Hernandez serves as assistant majority whip.
The case has been turned over to the Contra Costa County district attorney's office, who will decide if Hernandez will be charged.
Hernandez called the test results a "huge wake-up call" and said that he may have made poor judgment in believing he was sober enough to drive.
Hernandez said he will look further into the tests, and apologized to his constituents.
