Police say that the motorcyclist killed on the I-215 Freeway in Menifee on Saturday was going 100 miles per hour at the time of the crash.

It happened at around 8:30 p.m. along southbound lanes of the freeway, just north of Scott Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Investigators say that 19-year-old San Diego resident Gabriel Ruiz Valles was riding his 2021 Aprilia RS 660 in the fast lane when he approached a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro driving ahead of him in the same lane.

Valles continued to close distance on the car "at a high rate of speed, estimated at 100," police said. The Camaro was believed to be driving at about 70 miles per hour at the time.

He collided with the rear of the car, which ejected him from the motorcycle, CHP officers said.

The Camaro driver stopped at the scene. They have not been identified.

Valles was declared dead at the scene by Riverside County Fire Department paramedics.

Anyone who knows more is asked to contact CHP's Temecula location at (951) 466-4300.
