Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who left a woman severely injured in Long Beach last week.

It happened on Thursday at around 4:45 p.m. near the intersection of California Avenue and San Antonio Drive, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Officers arrived and found the victim at the scene and though she declined medical assistance at the time, she later took herself to a hospital for injuries she suffered in the crash.

Investigators determined that the driver of a tan Toyota Avalon that was driving eastbound on San Antonio Drive ran a red light and struck the woman's car.

"The driver briefly got out of his car, then got back in and fled the scene," said a release from LBPD.

They released an image of the vehicle, which had clear damage to its front end, in hopes that someone from the public can help them identify and locate the driver.

Anyone who has further information is asked to contact LBPD at (562) 570-7355.
