Police Presence Increased At Sylmar High School After Lunchtime Brawl
SYLMAR (CBSLA.com) — Security was increased Tuesday at Sylmar High School in the wake of a lunchtime brawl involving about 40 students.
"As the head of the most diverse school district in the nation, let me be very clear: We will not tolerate targeting or violence of any kind on our campuses," Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent Michelle King said in a statement.
Monday's 20-minute brawl was captured on cellphone video (Warning: link contains explicit language and violence) and took a dozen officers to control. The fighting took place on the campus at 13050 Borden Ave.
"Regarding the recent conflict at Sylmar High School, law enforcement is continuing to investigate. All parents and guardians have been notified about the incident, and appropriate disciplinary action is being taken," King said.
King said that additional school police had been deployed to the campus, along with extra administrative and support staff and counselors.
