Police: Mother With No Legal Custody Takes Boy, 1

VAN NUYS (CBS) — Los Angeles police say a 1-year-old boy was abducted by his 19-year-old mother Wednesday and they believe she might have fled to Mexico.

The boy's father has legal custody.

The boy was allegedly taken during a routine visit.

Officials say Wendy Cervantes picked up Bryan Bazan about 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The boy's father said she was to have returned the child by 6 a.m. this morning.

Norma Eisenman of the Los Angeles Police Department says the boy's father has been calling Ms. Cervantes to no avail. "Mr. Bazan went to Wendy's residence in the Van Nuys area and it was empty."

Family members told the father they believe the mother took the boy to Mexico.

Bryan has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a red and white shirt, brown shorts and blue shoes. CBS2's Jeff Nguyen reports the boy also has a red birthmark on the back of his neck.

Officials describe Wendy Cervantes as Hispanic, 5 feet 1 inches tall, 170 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes.

Police urged anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Cervantes or her son to contact the LAPD's Van Nuys Station at (818) 374-9500.
