Police Investigating Rollover Crash In South El Monte As Possible Homicide
SOUTH EL MONTE (CBSLA.com) — Police are investigating a rollover crash on the 60 Freeway in South El Monte as a possible homicide.
The crash happened on the north Rosemead on-ramp onto the eastbound 60 Freeway Friday night about 9:30.
A 20-year-old man died in the crash, which investigators believe may have occurred after a car-to-car shooting.
CBS2's Adrianna Weingold reported from the scene, the Rosemead Boulevard offramp of the 60 Freeway.
Flowers, candles, and balloons mark the spot where the unidentified man was killed.
"Whenever they determine that there could be some type of foul play or if it does appear that the person was murdered rather than just a rollover vehicle due to a drunk driver or something of that nature," said LA County Sheriff's Deputy Ryan Rouzan.
The man was found dead inside a black four-wheel sedan.
His cause of death wasn't immediately apparent to investigators.
They told Weingold they did find two firearms inside the car. At around the same time, Pico Rivera sheriffs were investigating a shooting victim at a local hospital.
"Detectives are investigating reports that the occupants in the vehicle that rolled over may have been involved in some type of altercation with the gunshot victim found from the hospital," Rouzan said.
It's unknown if the two incidents are related.
nvestigators are also unsure of the shooting victims condition or if there was a second person inside the car that flipped over.
Sheriff's deputies wouldn't say if the shooting was gang related, They also wouldn't specify whether or not there are any outstanding suspects.
