Police Investigate Shooting Death Near LAX
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Los Angeles police, Sunday, continued to sort out the details following the shooting death of one man, and the wounding of another, outside an upscale hotel near LAX.
Police said Sunday, that the person who was shot and wounded in Saturday's attack is a man, not a woman as originally reported.
Sgt. Mark Day said the wounded man was standing outside a white Cadillac, possibly just walking by it, as the shooting began at about 12:30 p.m. near the Renaissance Airport Hotel at Airport Boulevard and 96th Street.
Day said both men were taken to UCLA Medical Center, where the man, who was in the vehicle at the time of the shooting, was pronounced dead.
The other man suffered a graze wound to the leg and police have not yet released the names of either man.
Published reports that three men were being sought were discounted Sunday by Day. He said the lone suspect is the gunman: a man in his 20s who was earlier described as wearing a black headband.
It was unclear if the shooting was related to a gang-involved crime on L.A.'s Westside on Saturday.
A man was shot on Ocean Front Walk at 17th Avenue in Venice about 6:30 p.m. Police also rushed to a mass disturbance at a McDonald's on Lincoln Boulevard, just south of Venice Boulevard, shortly after that.
In the overnight hours Sunday, an officer assigned to the Pacific Station apparently got into a scuffle while making an assault arrest near Venice Boulevard and Walgrove Avenue.
