Suspect shot and killed by police outside Cerritos mall
Los Angeles County deputies are helping the California Highway Patrol investigate a deadly police shooting outside a Cerritos mall.
It happened outside the Los Cerritos Center at about 4 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
They say that officers with CHP's Southern Division Organized Retail Crime Task Force identified three suspects "as being involved in criminal activity," according to a statement from LASD.
The suspects fled the area, police said. Two of them, a man and a woman, drove away in a car before they were later arrested in Pico Rivera, authorities said.
The third suspect, who has not yet been identified, ran through the parking lot and pulled out a gun, which prompted the CHP officer to open fire, LASD's statement said.
Paramedics from the Los Angeles County Fire Department took the suspect to a local hospital where he later died.
The Los Cerritos Center said they did not have a comment at this time.
The city said that parts of the mall's northern parking lot will be closed as the investigation continues.
Anyone with information about the shooting should call deputies at (323) 890-5500. Anonymous tips can be submitted to LA Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477 or through their website.
