Police Investigate Possible Pipe Bomb Explosion At Warner Center
WARNER CENTER (CBS) — Police investigated a possible pipe bomb explosion at Warner Center Wednesday night.
The "explosion" was reported at 6150 Canoga, near Pierce College in Woodland Hills. Some portions of one apartment building were evacuated.
CBS2 and KCAL9 reporter Serene Branson reports that the apartment building was surrounded by police and fire units. Branson and her photographer were kept "pretty far" from the building as a precaution.
The Battalion Chief told her the Bomb Squad was expected to arrive to continue the investigation.
Some residents, on the Canoga Avenue side of the building have been ordered to leave.
It was unclear if there was any major damage to the apartment where the pipe bomb reportedly exploded.
Late Wednesday, police and fire gave residents the all clear.
It was reportedly determined there was nothing "explosive" at the scene -- rather a resident was apparently trying to find a new way to "dry marijuana," according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Said LA Fire, "The guy put marijuana and some chemicals in a canister and lit it..and he did it wrong and it 'exploded' in a small way and send debris out his window."
