Police In Huntington Beach On The Hunt For Driver In Fatal Hit-And-Run
HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBS) — Police in Huntington Beach are on the hunt Thursday for a hit-and-run driver wanted in a fatal accident involving a bicyclist.
Police were called about 5:35 p.m. Wednesday to Brookhurst Street and Villa Pacific Drive, where 69-year-old Jurgen Ankenbrand of Huntington Beach was struck by a Toyota 4-Runner and, moments later, a Honda Odyssey, Huntington Beach police Sgt. Rob Warden said.
Ankenbrand was pedaling from Villa Pacific Drive onto Brookhurst Street when he was hit by the dark-colored Toyota SUV, Warden said. Moments later,
Ankenbrand was struck by the southbound Honda van on Brookhurst, he said.
A witness called police, who arrived to find that only the Honda driver had remained at the scene, Warden said.
It's unclear whether Ankenbrand died because of the injuries from the first collision or both, Warden said. The Honda driver was not cited, he said.
Anyone with information about the SUV driver's identity or whereabouts was asked to contact Investigator Bob Barr at (714) 536-5666.
