Police In El Monte Fatally Shoot Pit Bull After It Lunges At Officers, Bites 2 People
EL MONTE (CBSLA.com) — Police in El Monte fatally shot a pit bull on Thursday after they say the dog bit two people, attacked another dog and lunged at them.
The pit bull got loose from a yard in the 11200 block of Schmidt Road sometime Thursday afternoon.
The pit bull's owners were not at home at the time the dog left the yard.
Officers arrived at the scene after the dog reportedly bit one woman and attacked another dog, according to El Monte Police Officer Steve Schuster.
Authorities said they tried to subdue the dog with bean bag pellets but the dog still charged at them. They also tried using a long pole with a noose-like loop at the end -- known as a come-along stick -- but that also didn't work.
The shooting happened around 12:30 p.m., officials said.
Police were not sure if the two people who were bit needed medical attention.
