Police Hunt 'Snowboarder Bandit' In Orange County
ANAHEIM (CBS) — The Anaheim police want to identify -- and stop -- the so-called "Snowboarder Bandit."
He's not stealing snowboards -- he's actually accused of robbing Orange County banks since December -- but his youthful athletic appearance and ski-type clothing has led to the nickname.
The bandit, usually clad in sunglasses and ski cap, has hit at least six banks, according to authorities.
His latest caper was allegedly Monday at 2:50 p.m. when he struck School's First Federal Credit Union located at 8152 East Santa Ana Canyon Road in the city of Anaheim. Authorities say he left the bank with an unknown amount of cash.
The suspect is a described as a male, white, mid to late 20's, 5'10" to 6' feet tall. He is approximately 180 to 200 pounds with blond hair, blue eyes, and clean cut.
Wells Fargo Bank and School's First Credit Union are each offering a $5,000.00 reward for the identification, arrest, and conviction of the "Snowboarder Bandit."
Anyone with information about any of these bank robberies is asked to call Anaheim Police Robbery Detective R. Martins at 714-765-1966 or 714-765-1900.
Stacey Butler, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, spoke to Sgt. Bob Dunn of the Anaheim Police Department.
Said Dunn, "He struck at a large shopping center -- there are many banks in this proximity. There were open businesses in and around this area. We're certain someone saw something."
While police say the suspect has not yet wielded a weapon, they believe he is armed.
