Police Hunt For Serial Arsonist In North Hollywood

NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBS) — A San Fernando Valley auto shop is among several sites police are searching in hopes of finding a serial arsonist causing havoc in the North Hollywood area.

The suspect has ignited at least 18 fires since last Thursday, torching cars, motor homes and apartments.

KNX 1070's John Brooks reports each blaze was reportedly started around 3 a.m., with some fires as close as 20 minutes apart.

One woman who lives near a house on Hatteras Street blackened in one of the fires said she's fortunate her home wasn't destroyed as well.

"When I got out there, it was all burnt, and the flames were 12 feet tall," she said.

The L.A. Fire Dept. has called in off-duty investigators to examine clues in the area between Lankershim Blvd. on the east, Laurel Canyon to the west, Vanowen to the north and Burbank Blvd. to the south.
