Police Hope Surveillance Video Will Lead To Killer
GARDENA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities are releasing surveillance video hoping that someone in the public can identify a murderer.
The unidentified gunman murdered Jonathan Lamp, a 23-year-old man, at a bus stop in Gardena three months ago. Lamp was killed at 3 p.m. -- in broad daylight -- on February 2 at the corner of Gardena and Vermont.
It's a story only airing on KCAL9 and CBS2. Andrea Fujii spoke to police about their investigation.
She also spoke to Lamp's brother who is still devastated by the crime.
Jason Giandomenico says, "He was like an angel."
He and the police are both hoping someone recognizes the man in the black hoodie who is first seen walking in one direction and then minutes later running the other way. They say the suspect shot Lamp three times.
Giandomenico adds, "It makes me especially angry because he was such a good person and he deserved much better than he received."
Lamp was about to become a father for the first time.
He wasn't a gang member but police believe the suspect may have believed he was.
Detective Jose Carias, of the LAPD said, "Somebody might have seen him, might have mistaken him for a gang member -- even though he didn't have the appearance of a gang member."
Video from nearby businesses show there were many eyewitnesses to the crime. So far, there have been no solid leads.
"It's about coming forward and doing the right thing," says Giandomenico.
Police told Fujii the suspect is Latino, 18-20 years old, about 5 foot 6 inches with a thin build.
