LAPD: Hit-And-Run Driver Flees Hollywood Crash That Critically Injures 2 Infants, 5 Others

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Officials say a hit-and-run crash Saturday night critically injured seven people, including two infants, in Hollywood.

Rescuers were called around 9:30 p.m. to the 1000 block of Orange Drive, near Santa Monica Boulevard, the Los Angeles City Fire Department reports.

The Los Angeles Police Department says the motorist responsible for this collision walked away, leaving behind several injured passengers in the vehicle he had been driving. Police believe that moments before this happened, that driver was involved in a similar, albeit minor, hit-and-run collision nearby.

He had been trying to drive away from that first crash, police say, when he ran a red light and struck the second vehicle.

"He got out of the car, he stayed in the area shortly, around his vehicle," LAPD Sgt. James Tomeo said. "He may have helped a couple people out of the car and, basically, walked off."

Paramedics transported the patients, all listed in critical condition, to a hospital. The LAFD listed the victims as: a 2-month-old boy; a 1-month-old boy; a 50-year-old man; a 16-year-old girl; a 20-year-old woman; a 19-year-old man; and another man whose age was unknown.

Police say they continued to look for the driver responsible for the two hit-and-run collisions.

He was last seen heading east on Santa Monica Blvd. Officers described him as a Hispanic man between 20 and 25 years old. He was wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans.
