Police Fatally Shoot Man In San Bernardino Allegedly Holding Large Knife On Woman, Kids
SAN BERNARDION (CBSLA.com) — A San Bernardino Police officer fatally shot a suspect Saturday who was allegedly holding a woman and children at knife point.
Authorities said an officer was flagged down just before 11:30 a.m. in the 500 block of N. Tia Juana in San Bernardino.
A man told the officer he had just been confronted by a man who was holding a large knife. He said the knife-wielding man was angry and violent and stabbed at his vehicle before fleeing into a home.
The officer went to the house to contact the suspect, later identified as a 49-year-old.
While walking up to the home's front entrance, the officer said he could see a male, later identified as the same man who threatened the driver, in the doorway holding an adult female in one hand with a large knife in his other. There were also two juveniles visible in the house.
The officer says he repeatedly told the suspect to drop the knife but he did not comply. The suspect reportedly shouted "shoot me."
In order to protect himself, and the occupants inside the home -- two adult females and two juveniles -- the officer fired several rounds from his gun striking the suspect.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital but was later declared dead.
