Pursuit Suspect Killed Following Standoff, Deputy-Involved Shooting In Paramount
PARAMOUNT (CBSLA.com) — A pursuit suspect was fatally wounded early Friday morning following an hours-long standoff and deputy-involved shooting in Paramount.
The shooting happened just after 3 a.m. in the 7400 block of Jackson Street, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.
The unidentified suspect allegedly brandished a weapon at California Highway Patrol officers around 10:55 p.m. Thursday and then led authorities on a short pursuit through Cerritos and Long Beach.
The pursuit ended when the man struck a tree, disabling the vehicle on Jackson Street.
The suspect barricaded himself inside his SUV until about 3:30 a.m. when a SWAT shooting occurred.
"One suspect has been wounded and transported to a local hospital in an unknown condition," officials said.
The man, who was in his 20s, died a short time later from his injuries, the coroner said.
No deputies were injured in the incident. The suspect's handgun was recovered from the scene, police said.
Nearby homes were evacuated during the standoff.
LASD Homicide detectives were investigating the shooting.
