Reckless Driving Suspect Taken Into Custody
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Police chased a reckless driving suspect near USC Thursday night in a strange chase that apparently ended with the driver insisting on chain smoking before he was put into handcuffs.
Stu Mundel, reporting in Sky9, said the chase started near Exposition Park.
The suspect, driving a Suburu station wagon, was originally wanted for driving erratically.
At least four squad cars and a police helicopter chased the suspect.
He narrowly escaped hitting a woman pushing a baby stroller at one intersection.
After about 20 minutes, the suspect pulled over, stopped his vehicle and got out of his vehicle with his hands up...although he appeared to be talking on a cell phone...and smoking.
He also appeared to take several drags on a cigarette while laying prone on the ground.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident and after he put out his cigarette.
