2 Female Suspects Nabbed After Wild O.C. Pursuit In Stolen Car
SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) – Police chased two women in a stolen car in Santa Ana Friday evening before taking the driver and a passenger into custody.
Police say the chase stated in Santa Ana with the suspect on the 22 Freeway and surface streets just before 5 p.m.
The suspect drove erratically in an effort to evade authorities.
She drove the wrong way, on sidewalks and barely missed hitting other cars and pedestrians.
After the pursuit ended, police told KCAL9's Stacey Butler the suspect was also driving on a suspended license and had a warrant out for her arrest on a narcotics possession charge.
The driver went the wrong-way at least four times during the pursuit.
Stu Mundel, reporting in Sky2, said the driver appeared to also be on a flat after police were able to employ a spike strip.
After about 25 minutes, the driver jumped out of the stricken vehicle and attempted a foot bail.
The chase started in Santa Ana went to Anaheim to Orange and then back to Santa Ana.
The suspect was identified as 20-year-old Kimberly Camacho.
During the chase, police said Camacho almost hit people at a vigil for three teens killed while trick-or-treating last Friday.
Police also said Camacho called 911 during the chase to ask why she was being followed.
Authorities said 15 minutes later, she turned into an alley and bailed taking off on foot.
Butler reported at that juncture, Max the K-9 officer, sprung into action.
"The dog caught up to her and he grabbed her and she fell to the ground," a witness told Butler.
The witness lives mere feet from where Max took the suspect down. She believes if not for the K-9 officer, things could have been worse.
"Someone could have got hurt worse than just getting grabbed by her leg by the dog," said the witness.
Camacho was hospitalized for treatment of her dog bite, Butler reported.
The passenger told authorities she had no idea the car was stolen.
Police released the passenger earlier Friday evening.
