Slow Pursuit Ends Peacefully In Torrance
HUNTINGTON PARK (CBS) — A sometimes slow-as-molasses chase ended Thursday evening when CHP officers did a PITT maneuver on a driver originally wanted --ironically -- for speeding and failure to yield.
After more than an hour, the driver surrendered peacefully under a 405 overpass.
The driver started police on a slow speed chase which picked up speed about a half hour after it began.
At that time, the CHP picked up the pursuit.
The chase started just after 9:40 in Huntington Park, said authorities.
The suspect has been on the 405 Freeway and is currently on surface streets.
He mostly kept on surface streets avoiding freeways as is the case in many pursuits. He went northbound on La Cienga near LAX. In Torrance he went through several parking lots driving aimlessly.
Officials said he's gone through several red lights.
As chases go, this suspect remained relatively slow going about 40 mph at his top speed.
Officials originally said the driver was wanted for speeding...and as KCAL9 anchor Rick Garcia reported, "he's been mostly obeying traffic laws...but he's been going through a series of stop signs."
