DUI Suspect Throws Hatchet, Burglary Tools Out The Window During Erratic Police Chase

NORTH HILLS (CBSLA.com) — A 27-year-old man suspected of driving under the influence was arrested following a chase that ended in North Hills Thursday night.

The chase began at 10:13 p.m. at the intersection of Corbin Avenue and Roscoe Boulevard, where officers spotted the man driving
erratically, LAPD Sgt. Jeff Nuttall said.

Stu Mundel, reporting in Sky9, said the suspect was driving quickly and on surface streets.

The driver ran several red lights. He allegedly threw a hatchet and some burglary tools from his car, Nuttall said.

At least three patrol cars were in pursuit of the suspect.

Mundel said wet roads were a factor in the chase. He reported that police were worried about the driver speeding in residential neighborhoods.

After about 20 minutes the driver pulled over near Parthenia Street and Hayvenhurst Avenue and surrendered.

After leaving the vehicle, the car continued to roll as it appeared the suspect forgot to put the vehicle in park.

Officers allegedly found methamphetamine packaged for sale in the car. The suspect was driving with a suspended license, Nuttall said.

Police administered a sobriety test. He faces several possible charges, including possession of narcotics for sale, Nuttall said.
