Police Car Crashes During West Covina Pursuit; Suspect Surrenders
BALDWIN PARK (CBSLA.com) — A suspect who led West Covina police on a chase in a stolen vehicle Monday has surrendered to authorities in Baldwin Park, according to police.
The chase began just before 10 a.m. in the West Covina area when officers spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen, said West Covina police Cpl. Rudy Lopez.
When officers attempted to make a traffic stop, the driver kept going and led them on a pursuit through the City of Industry and then Baldwin Park, where he stopped near Bess Avenue and Athol Street about 10:20 a.m. and ran off, Lopez said.
A police car collided with another vehicle just before the suspect's vehicle stopped, according to Lopez.
It wasn't immediately clear if there were any injuries resulting from the crash.
Officers searched the area and arrested the suspect about 11 a.m., Lopez said.
His name was not immediately released.
De Anza Elementary had been placed on lockdown during the pursuit as a precaution.
