Police Baffled In Disappearance Of Placentia Millionaire, 81
PLACENTIA (CBS) — Investigators are baffled by the disappearance of an 81-year-old Placentia millionaire who vanished in 2009 just days before he was to be re-united with his new wife.
Bob Harrod was getting his Carnation Drive home ready for Fontelle Harrod to move in when he vanished on July 27, 2009.
Authorities say he was last seen by his son-in-law, Jeff Michaels, who was at Harrod's home doing maintenance work. When Michaels returned to the home later, he found the house locked up and Harrod's keys and wallet gone.
Investigators have no leads, but as KCAL9's Michele Gile reports, "his family is not giving up."
The family is offering a $50,000 reward for information regarding Harrod's disappearance.
Police are investigating the disappearance as a murder, but they've have not found a crime scene, a suspect, or a body.
Fontelle Harrod, the man's second wife, tells Gile that the case "is being investigated as a homicide...this is what I was told."
Corrine Loomis, a detective told Gile that, originally, police believed maybe the man got cold feet but realized he loved his new wife too much to make that plausible. "We knew that something had happened to him," she said.
The man's assets are frozen in a trust. Loomis adds, "No one seems to know anything."
The family is offering a $50,000 reward.
