Police Arrest Long Beach Man After He Allegedly Shot Wife And Daughter In Domestic Violence Incident
LONG BEACH (CBS) — Long Beach police officers forced their way into a home where a man shot his 37-year-old wife and 16-year-old daughter in the legs, authorities said Monday.
The girl called police about 4:45 a.m. Sunday from Myrtle Avenue and Hill Street saying that her father was armed with a gun and had shot her and her mother.
As she pleaded for help, the 911 operator could hear what sounded like gunshots.
When police arrived, the girl ran outside, despite suffering from a gunshot wound to her leg. She told them her wounded mother was still inside the home and her father was still armed, police said.
Police said they immediately decided to attempt to rescue the mother and arrest the suspect.
They reportedly found the suspect in the kitchen, standing over the mother, who was on the floor bleeding from a gunshot wound.
The suspect fled into a nearby bedroom where officers chased him and arrested him, police said.
Three minors and their grandmother were also in the home, but they were unhurt.
The mother and daughter were taken to a hospital for non-life threatening wounds.
The man was booked for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and spousal abuse.
Two handguns and a kitchen knife were seized as evidence.
The motive was not known. The suspect's name was not released.
Anyone with information on the case was asked to call the Long Beach Police Department's Domestic Violence Unit at (562) 570-7277.
