Police Arrest 2 Los Osos High School Students For Conspiracy To Commit Murder
RANCHO CUCAMONGA (CBSLA.com) — Two Los Osos High School students have been arrested for conspiracy to commit murder, according to the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department.
A 14-year-old male and 14-year-old female were taken into custody around 3 p.m. Monday following an investigation into rumors of a possible shooting on the school campus.
The school's resource officer, Deputy Melinda Young, interviewed 27 students and two faculty members during the course of the investigation, which took place "over the last several days," Sheriff-Coroner John McMahon stated in a press release.
One of two students believed to have originated the rumors claimed to be a victim of the possible threat, according to authorities.
"While Deputy Young was consensually looking through one of the students' phone, she located evidence regarding how the rumors got started," McMahon stated.
On Monday, Deputy Young confronted the male student about the texting and spreading of rumors. The student was detained for further questioning.
The female, who was not in school, was brought into the Rancho Cucamonga station to be interviewed by Deputy Young.
Both juveniles were subsequently arrested and booked into San Bernardino Juvenile Hall for conspiracy to commit murder, according to McMahon. They are scheduled to be arraigned later this week.
School officials tell CBS2/KCAL9 extra patrols are now on campus and authorities say the students are safe.
