Police Arrest 2 Armed Robbery Suspects After Irvine Jewelry Store Heist
IRVINE (CBS) — Police arrested two robbery suspects Sunday after they stole several Rolex watches from an Orange County jewelry store.
Irvine Police said two armed men demanded employees open a case of watches at David Lee Jewelry, 15333 Culver Drive. Officials said at least one suspect pointed a gun at the staff before fleeing from the store around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
As the suspects ran from the scene, the store's armed security guard chased after them and fired several shots. Neither of the suspects was hit, police said.
Irvine police arrived shortly after the robbery and were able to arrest Maurice Houston Jr., 19, and Ruben Darty, 21, who were hiding in a neighborhood within approximately 30 minutes.
The stolen watches were recovered as well as a fake handgun used in the robbery, police said.
