Plane Ran Out Of Fuel Before Crash Into Newport Bay Killed 3
NEWPORT BEACH (AP) — Federal investigators say a single-engine plane that crashed into upper Newport Bay last month ran out of fuel.
Three men aboard the 1968 Beechcraft Musketeer drowned after the Nov. 21 crash. They were returning to Torrance from a trip to Calexico.
The National Transportation Safety Board says in a preliminary report released Monday that pilot Charles Alfred Chambers told air traffic controllers he had run out of fuel.
The Orange County Register says the NTSB investigation confirmed there was no fuel aboard the plane.
The Orange County coroner's office reported Chambers and friends Russell Urban and Sean Kelley drowned when the plane flipped in the shallow water.
