Small Plane Goes Missing Between Palm Springs, Chino
CHINO, Calif. (AP) — A small plane has been reported overdue on a flight from Palm Springs to Chino.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says a relative of the pilot called Monday when the Aero Commander didn't arrive as expected in Chino.
Skies were clear in Palm Springs Monday morning, but the weather and visibility farther west is bad. The cities are about 65 miles apart.
Gregor says the pilot was using visual flight rules and didn't communicate with air traffic controllers during the trip.
The Riverside County Sheriff's department is responsible for conducting a search. The FAA is contacting other airports to see if the pilot diverted.
