Pilot, Passenger Survive Glider Crash In Wrightwood Area
PALMDALE (CBSLA.com) — A pilot and his passenger survived an emergency crash landing in the Wrightwood area Saturday.
Deputies with the Palmdale Sheriff's Station were dispatched to an aircraft down call. The Aero Bureau and Special Enforcement Bureau as well as Air Rescue 5 helicopter and an Emergency Services Detail (ESD) were also called in for the rescue.
The glider came down in a remote mountainous area, officials said.
The pilot (a 57-year-old Alhambra man) and his passenger (a 53-year-old Beverly Hills man) were airlifted to safety with minor injuries. The pilot was taken to a local hospital, his passenger declined treatment.
The exact cause of the crash landing will be investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Aero Bureau.
