Photographer Who Documented Hollywood Freeway Construction Dies At 98
RHINEBECK, N.Y. (AP) — Photographer Richard C. Miller, who documented the construction of the Hollywood Freeway in the middle of the 20th century and photographed celebrities, has died. He was 98.
His daughter, Margaret Miller, says he died of complications from pneumonia at a hospital in Rhinebeck, N.Y. on Friday.
Miller spent his career in Los Angeles and was known for his photographs of Marilyn Monroe when she was still known as Norma Jeane Baker and of James Dean on the set of "Giant."
Miller was one of the few photographers who made prints using the out-of-fashion Carbro process, a time-consuming method that used pigments rather than dyes to create vivid colors.
He is survived by two daughters, a sister and two grandsons. His wife died in 2006.
