Photo Taken Moments After Crash May Offer Clue In Koreatown Hit-And-Run
BOYLE HEIGHTS (CBSLA.com) — A 55-year-old woman remained hospitalized Tuesday days after a hit-and-run crash in Koreatown and the victim's son shared a witness photo he hopes may help identify the driver.
The crash on Harvard Boulevard and West 8th Street happened around 9:50 a.m. Saturday, according to the victim's son, Dain Ban.
In Korean, Ban told CBS2's Rachel Kim his mom was traveling southbound on Harvard when she was hit by a sport utility vehicle heading westbound on 8th.
The impact of the crash sent his mom's BMW sedan up the sidewalk and into a wall. She was taken to the hospital and is listed in serious condition with injuries to her brain, ribs and arm.
Ban also says his mom has no memory of the accident but remains hopeful police will apprehend the other driver who he says was captured in a witness photo running from the mangled SUV.
Another witness, who was working nearby, told Kim he heard the crash and said when he came outside, the driver of the SUV initially exited the car but went back inside and retrieved a few items.
Kim reports that the SUV seen in the photo is believed to be a rental car.
