Man tied up during Woodland Hills home invasion recounts terrifying experience
The man who was tied up while his Woodland Hills home was ransacked on Sunday night is recounting his harrowing experience as police continue their search for the group of suspects.
Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department received calls around 10:55 p.m. that burglary suspects were inside a home on the 23000 block of Erwin Street near Royer Avenue.
When officers arrived at the scene, the suspects had already fled in an unknown direction. They learned that the incident began at around 7 p.m., hours before the victims could finally contact them.
When officers entered the home, they found an individual tied up in one of the bedrooms. He says that he was asleep when they busted into his bedroom.
"They took over and we couldn't get rid of them," the elderly man told CBS News Los Angeles. "They strapped us in wire, like colt wire and same thing on the ankles."
Police say that the man's wife was in a different part of the house, where one of the suspects kept her during the home invasion, during which they stole a safe.
"They did a lot of damage," the man said.
The LAPD said two of the three suspects were wearing masks and dark clothing, while the third was wearing a silver tracksuit. They were also on the phone with a fourth individual, who they believe was working as the group's getaway driver.
No injuries were reported. No arrests have been made and detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.
