A pedestrian died after they were hit by a car in San Jacinto on Thursday evening.

It happened at around 6:12 p.m. on State Street, just south of Ramona Boulevard, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Office.

"The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was standing on the side of the road and fell into the roadway, where he was struck by a passing vehicle," a statement said.

Though it's unclear what caused the male victim to fall into the street, investigators say that alcohol and/or drugs may have been a factor in the collision based on information they gathered at the scene.

The driver of the car that struck the pedestrian remained at the scene to cooperate with RSO's investigation.

The victim has not yet been identified.

Anyone who knows more is asked to contact the San Jacinto Sheriff's Station at (951) 654-2702.
