13 Passengers Injured In Baldwin Park Tour Bus Crash
BALDWIN PARK (CBSLA.com) — More than 30 passengers were briefly trapped inside a tour bus early Monday morning after the driver lost control while on a Southland freeway.
Authorities believe the bus driver may have been speeding when the accident happened at 4:37 a.m. at the westbound 10 Freeway and Baldwin Park Boulevard offramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.
"The bus tried to get on the ramp to exit, but he come too fast. He can't control the bus," passenger Eduardo Magana said.
The bus' door became blocked in the accident after it took out a fence, locking 38 passengers and the driver inside, officials said.
They were freed about an hour later by rescue personnel.
"The fire department had to break the glass and escort the passengers out of the door through the glass opening," CHP Sgt. Grady Stevens said.
Thirteen people suffered injuries, 11 minor and two moderate, and were transported to a local hospital, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
The bus, operated by Travel Tours Americas International, was traveling from the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio to Eagel Rock and Panorama City, officials said.
Authorities have yet to determine what caused the crash or why the bus driver lost control.
The offramp was shut down in order to remove the bus.
