Party Patrol To Crack Down On Loud Gatherings At Sylmar Homes
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A new city grant will pay for a party patrol in Sylmar this summer, a Los Angeles councilman announced Thursday.
The $42,640 grant will pay for 720 hours of Los Angeles Police Department overtime that will allow officers to patrol weekend house parties with loud music and drinking in the LAPD's Mission Division, Councilman Richard Alacron said.
"The summer season means that the LAPD will be receiving more calls about loud, out-of-control parties, which can quickly turn violent when alcohol, drugs or gang members are involved," Alarcon said. "Party patrols are pro-active policing at its best, reducing violence while improving local quality of life."
The so-called "Party Car Detail" was first implemented last summer and will be in effect from mid-June through September.
The 2012 patrol responded to 2,100 parties by the end of August, during which one rape, two robberies and more than a dozen aggravated assaults were reported, officials said.
Police typically respond to 5,000 party disturbance calls after 10 p.m. annually in the northeast San Fernando Valley.
